Who is eligible to tryout for Majors?

All registered 10 and 11 year olds (born between September 1, 2006 & August 31, 2008) who are interested in playing in Major League and have not played in the SYBSA Major League previously are eligible to tryout.

Who is automatically in Majors?

All 12 year old 7th graders, all 6th graders (regardless of age) and all 5th graders who played in SYBSA Major League last year are exempt from tryouts and will automatically be placed in Majors.

Who is eligible for AAA tryouts?

All registered 9 year olds (born between September 1, 2008 & August 31, 2009).

Who is automatically in AAA?

All 10 year olds and any 11 year old that is not playing in Majors.

Do we need to attend both tryout sessions?

No, you only need to attend one tryout.

What will happen at the tryouts?

Players will be run through a series of baseball drills. Note that this is not a “traditional” tryout, i.e., to make a particular team. This is a screening process to evaluate each player’s ability to play in AAA or Majors.

Who will evaluate the players?

Evaluators will be parents who have coached in SYB for several years and are familiar with the skill level required to succeed at each level. NONE of the evaluators will have a child who is participating in the tryout. Similarly, the adults helping to run the drills will also NOT have a child who is participating in the tryout.

When will I know the results of the tryout?

Parents will be notified at the beginning of March with the results of the tryouts. Players not assigned to the Major League will be placed in the AAA league. Players not assigned to AAA will be placed in AA. Individual teams in each league will be created at the end of March.

Who do I contact if I have additional questions?

Please contact the SYB Player Agent, Jim Blackburn at SLLplayeragent1@gmail.com

PLEASE  NOTE: . We cannot accommodate all players who try out for AAA and Majors. Please consider your child’s skill level and maturity in deciding whether or not to attend the tryouts.
